Skylar Marshai's Outfit Has a Lot to Say. We're Listening.

Somewhere between the striped button-down, plaid tie, and electric-blue boots, Skylar Marshai turned what could've been a perfectly respectable office outfit into something you'd never actually wear to the office.

And I mean that as a compliment.

The shirt and tie are familiar enough, but then you notice the corset-style bodice, exaggerated skirt, and those electric-blue boots. Even the textured bag seems to have its own agenda.

There's something amusing about how seriously the outfit takes its tailoring while completely ignoring the rules that usually come with it.

And that's where Skylar turns things up a notch.

The Office Dress Code Has Officially Lost the Plot

The corporate wardrobe is having a rather interesting identity crisis.

For Fall 2026, Bottega Veneta and Balenciaga experimented with half-tucked shirt collars, while Jil Sander's Simone Bellotti reworked traditional tailoring with displaced collars and unexpected cuts.

It's a small rebellion against how we're used to wearing these pieces.

Skylar just so happens to have a few ideas of her own, obviously.

Her striped shirt and plaid tie keep things familiar, but the corset-style bodice and exaggerated skirt take the outfit somewhere else entirely. The blue piping even picks up the color of her boots, making the combination feel considered rather than thrown together.

Same wardrobe staples. A completely different way of wearing them.

Before You Take Something Off, Try This Instead

Next time you reach for a button-down, don't automatically pair it with the trousers you've worn a hundred times.

Try Something Different:

  • Change the silhouette. Layer a fitted vest or structured bodice over an oversized shirt.

  • Play with proportions. A full skirt can be just as interesting with tailoring as it is with a fitted knit.

  • Repeat a color somewhere unexpected. Think blue stitching with cobalt shoes, or a burgundy bag with matching socks.

  • Mix your textures. Crisp cotton, sculptural fabric, and something soft or fuzzy can happily coexist.

And if something feels a little unusual at first, give it another look before deciding it doesn't work.

Sometimes the combination you wouldn't normally consider is the one worth keeping.

Personal Style Was Never Supposed to Be a Group Project

There's a difference between putting together an outfit that follows the rules and one that actually feels like yours.

Skylar's outfit makes a convincing case for dressing on your own terms.

The shirt and tie are still recognizable. They've just found themselves in much more interesting company.

And that's the fun of personal style. Borrow something from the runway, rediscover a piece that's been sitting in your closet, or put two things together that you'd normally never consider wearing in the same outfit.

Maybe it works. Maybe it doesn't. But you'll never know until you try.

Besides, getting dressed would be terribly boring if we all had to agree.
